Cute Summer Updo for Long Hair

I’ve got a cute and easy summer updo for you! This is a great one if you’re looking for a pretty hairstyle for any occasion. This cute summer updo is great for any occasion and certainly is one that will keep the hair off of you neck under the hot summer sun.

I’m all about hairstyles that are easy and this one – even though it might not look easy – is definitely an easy and fun one to do! I love that it’s a hairstyle that can be worn to just about anything – school, sports, activities, playdates, etc!

For this hairstyle, having medium to long hair in length helps a ton. You can’t do this exact hairstyle with short hair, but you can certainly modify it to make it work.

Now… my Victoria actually came up with the idea for this one. She loves when her hair is up in hair elastics, but she wanted it to be finished with braids. So I did the best I could turning her idea into a hairstyle. I think it came out really cute!

Hair Tutorial for a Summer Updo

As you can see, this one is a fun one to do in the hair! Don’t rush this one, it’s not one that can be done in a few minutes, but I promise – it’s work it!

Step by Step Tutorial:

  1. Part the hair down the middle in the back.
  2. Take a small section in front and add a hair elastic.
  3. Take a second section directly behind that first one – combine the top one with it and add a hair elastic.
  4. Repeat this sequence one more time.
  5. Once your done, take the remaining hair underneath and the section that’s hair tied and create a three-strand braid.
  6. You can add a ribbon or bows to the hairstyle, too!

I just love how this one turns out! Again, it’s a cute summer updo that works for just about anything! It even stays up when you go into the water!

Hair Products To Use on this Cute Summer Braid Hairstyle

Here are the hair products that I used for this particular hairstyle.

These are the Teenitor hair elastics I’ve been using lately. I was recommended to use them and couldn’t wait to give them a try. Victoria’s hair is on the thicker side, so I need to make sure I have hair elastics that will hold the hair and be extra durable. I also want to make sure the hair elastics won’t damage or crease the hair.

best hair elastics

  • Strong and stretchy: The elastics are not so thin that they break when you try to stretch, but they are not so thick that you can’t stretch them properly. They have stayed in very fine, soft hair through days of gardening. Also, they slide off the braids when grabbed and pull off clean. No rolling and catching the hair to make knots.
  • Great deal: This is a great deal on 2000 pieces clear rubber elastic hair bands, enough for braiding different hairstyles. You can keep a couple dozen in your purse, another couple dozen in your gym bag, some in your car…you get the idea. Any time you realize you need a hair tie, you’ll have a stash.

The best part is that you get 2000 for under $7!

It’s the one question I get asked the most lately, and I love it. It’s important to make sure you prep the hair before you create a hairstyle. I love to use hair styling cream because I know it will help to keep the hair smooth and shiny.
