Healthy Lunch Options for your Kids #BacktoSchool #PURELL30

When it comes to back to school time, there’s one thing all parents have to think about and take care of for their kids… lunch! When it comes to lunchtime at school, I prefer my children having cold lunch because I have control over what they’re bringing and what they’re eating. My kids all have different likes and dislikes when it comes to food, but there’s one lunch truth that I always stick to…  making sure they’re eating a healthy lunch.

Healthy options make for healthy meals. Healthy meals make for healthy kids.

Since my kids are now actually back to school and heading off every morning with their lunch, I’m all about consistent and yummy and HEALTHY options for them right now. With so much out there when it comes to snacks and foods for lunch, it’s important to make sure you have a plan. I don’t want my kids heading to school and not eating, so I make sure we all have a say in what goes in their lunch bag every morning.  This is my healthy-lunch-way-of-thinking:

1. Drink that’s healthy and delicious for them

2. Sandwich that is hearty and healthy

3. Fruit/Vegetable

4. Healthy “fun” option for them

5. Additional snack

I also try and make lunch colorful and exciting for them. I don’t want them to feel like they’re getting a dull lunch. I want them to get excited about their options and think that it’s fun and yummy!

Here was the lunch I packed the boys today for school:

Healthy Lunch

As you can see… Sandwich – which is a PB&J, Banana, Tomatoes, Goldfish and a Yogurt Stick. I love that the reds of the tomatoes and the yellow of the banana and the orange of the fish really POP! I think it makes lunch fun. My sons LOVE yogurt sticks, so this is a true treat! I even freeze them so they will be extra cold for lunch! 🙂

There’s ONE thing I’m missing to make this lunch an extra healthy lunch. You want to make sure you’re children are practicing good hand hygiene, too. I attach a PURELL in a jelly wrapper to all of their lunch bags.
