Best Base Layer for Cold Weather

If you live in colder climates in the winter you know you need to be bundled up pretty good when you head outside. You need to make sure you have the best base layer for cold weather on you because it will keep your body temp where it needs to be. Growing up in New England I know firsthand how important it is to have these types of clothes on hand during the winter months. Sharing with you the best of the best on the blog today!

Best Base Layer for Cold Weather

It might sound crazy to people that live in Florida or Arizona, but when you live here you need to make sure you’re ready for temps that fall below zero! When I was a kid my mom used to be the expert when it came to layering clothes for cold weather. She knew that we’d be freezing at the bus stop (before and after school) without a proper cold weather base layer, she would always make sure we were properly dressed for the winter months. Not to mention – we were kids and just LOVED to play outside.

I learned from the best and now with my own kids I’ve become the expert at finding the best base layer for cold weather for them. Since they’re all different sizes and ages now, it isn’t as easy as it was when they were all little kids. Now I need to find the best cold weather clothing for a 6 year old little girl, (2) tween boys and (2) teens… never mind for myself, too!

The reason I’m more keen on finding the best base layer for cold weather is because we’re going skiing this season and I really don’t want the kids (or me!) to be cold. My husband’s been the same size for over 15 years, so he’s usually pretty set when it comes to having a cold weather base layer for skiing. Since we do love to be out and about in the colder months with sledding, walks around town and just being out and about… these layers will be worn a ton.

I’m going to feature 4 of retailers I’ve bought from when it comes to finding base layers for cold weather: Patagonia, The North Face, L.L.Bean and Cuddl Duds. The good thing is that each retailer comes with its own price point and you’re able to find something for everyone in your family at these retailers, too.

#1 Best Base Layer for Cold Weather at Patagonia:

You’re going to find superior warmth from Patagonia base layers. Layering clothes for cold weather isn’t a science, but when you have the best there is, you’re always going to be warm. It’s just good old fashion common sense. My faves are the Patagonia Women’s Capilene® Thermal Weight Crew for $89.00 and the Patagonia Women’s Capilene® Thermal Weight Bottoms for $89.00.

#2 Best Base Layer for Cold Weather at The North Face:

I love The North Face and buy lots of our jackets there, so it would only make sense that they would also have additional warm base layer clothing for cold weather, too! My faves from The North Face? Women’s Warm Poly Tights for $50.00 and Women’s Warm Poly Crew for $50.00.

When it comes to having the best base layers, you definitely want to make sure you have items that will keep you warm, but also comfortable. My faves from L.L.Bean are Women’s L.L.Bean Fleece Base Layer Crew for $39.95 and L.L.Bean Fleece Base Layer Pants for $39.95.
