Just last week I mentioned that Jemma Kidd’s Lip Balm was one of my all-time FAVES! So… I was beyond excited to get the chance to interview her about some Spring Beauty.
International makeup artist, award-winning product designer and modern business woman, Jemma Kidd is one of the U.K.’s most celebrated talents, working with leading fashion designers, photographers and a host of prestigious magazines including American and British Vogue, Vanity Fair and Elle. Kidd also collaborated with makeup giants Max Factor, Stila and Rimmel before founding the Jemma Kidd Makeup School Collection, featuring multipurpose and easy-to-use products that combine professional performance with intelligent innovative formulas. In 2008, Kidd further expanded her reach by launching JK Jemma Kidd, her collection of ultra-wearable designer makeup for today’s uber-chic and fashion-forward woman, exclusively at Target. JK Jemma Kidd incorporates high fashion, statement color and runway glamour, making fashion-forward beauty accessible to all women – from catwalk to sidewalk.
1. What are the top Beauty Trends for the Spring?
Dewy, radiant skin is a big trend for spring and was seen on so many of the Spring/Summer 2010 runways. To achieve this, use a skin illuminator with light reflecting particles under your foundation or mixed in with it. I love my Mannequin Skin Complexion Enhancer for creating a gorgeous, fresh look.
2. What colors are emerging as the “hot” and “it” colors?
Purple is the real statement colour for spring, from delicate lilac right through to bold violet and plum. Orange lips have also been making a comeback, as seen at the Prada and Giambattista Valli Spring/Summer 2010 shows and even making an appearance on the red carpet thanks to Hollywood stars like Scarlett Johannson and January Jones. For an even, long-lasting finish, just remember to prepare lips beforehand; try my Perfect-Pout Exfoliating Treatment Balm for a lipstick-ready pout.
3. What do you feel are beauty essentials for Moms?
As a new mum myself, I know how difficult it can be to look fabulous when you’ve only had four hours sleep. I like to use a little white eyeshadow to highlight the inner corner of the eye to make your eyes sparkle and pop; it’s real wake-up makeup! My I-Design Eye Colour in Elle is an ideal shade. Also look for products that will help you achieve beautiful makeup in less time; multi-purpose and skincare-based make-up products are ideal for quick beauty regimes.
4. What are common beauty mistakes?
Women often use makeup as a mask but the key thing to remember is less is more. Use makeup to accentuate your features, not as something to hide behind.
5. What’s your fave item for the Spring?
I’m converting everyone to lip glazes at the moment; think of a lipstick bullet but with a high-shine, glossy finish. They’re great for more mature women who want to update from lipstick but don’t want shimmer, plus they are the perfect lip product for Spring and Summer because of the sheer colour in a moisture-rich formula. I never leave the house without my Sheer Vanity Gloss & Glaze in Belle de Jour.
