How To Convince Your Parents To Get a Dog

My daughter is in the process of trying to convince us to get a dog. It’s been fun seeing her try to convince us to get one (we’ve continuously said no). She’s completely laid out a plan on how to convince your parents to get a dog at 7 years old.

When I was a kid I had two dogs that I loved to pieces. It was amazing to have them and I remember begging them for years. I even remember playing the how to convince parents to get a dog with my sister and brothers.

We told my daughter that if she wanted to really get a dog, she needed to tell us why. We weren’t prepared for her asking her 4 brothers for answers, too, but she did.

HOW TO CONVINCE YOUR PARENTS TO GET A DOG

They all structured out a plan on how to convince your parents to get a dog. Granted (we) the parents make the ultimate decision, but I thought it was fun to share this one, too.

When I was a kid I even wrote a persuasive letter to parents to get a dog. I don’t know if it helped, but we ended up getting two of them.

HOW TO CONVINCE YOUR PARENTS TO GET A DOG

We told our daughter to share with us 10 REASONS why we should get a dog for our family. Besides her sharing with us 100 photos from her iPad with us, we wanted to have reasons why. She could send us cute puppy photos all day long. We will love them, but they won’t 100% convince us.

She met up with her older brothers and came up with 10 reasons now how to get your parents to say yes to a dog. She knew her brothers would help her ou when it came to coming up with some solid and useable ideas. Watching them come together on how to convince your parents to get a dog was adorable.

A lesson in dog grooming

10 Reasons Why Families Should Get a Dog:

  1. The dog will act as an additional playmate for the kids.
  2. Great way for kids to showcase some responsibility.
  3. Dog boosts your happiness.
  4. Dogs protect your home.
  5. Dogs show unconditional love.
  6. Kids will walk the dog.
  7. Kids will pick up whatever they drop in the backyard (major sticking point for me).
  8. Companion for the kids in bed if they’re scared at night.
  9. Instead of having another baby, we get a dog.
  10. Someone to pick up food scraps on the ground (my kids are always dropping food!).

These reasons were what my kids came up with for us. I’m going to be totally honest with you, I don’t know what we’re going to do yet. I just think that the ideas they laid out in how to convince parents to get a dog were solid and good and very reasonable.

If you’re a dog owner, what was the #1 reason that tipped the scales for you? Especially if you were on the fence about getting a dog. I know for us it’s worrying about taking on so much extra work. I know that our time is tapped with work. I’m worried that we won’t have the time for a dog.

My kids would love to have one to grow up with and I do feel like Victoria (at 7 years old) is at a perfect age, I’m just not 100% convinced yet.

If you’re like us and wondering what to do about a dog or a pet, have your kids layout some ideas. If your kids are old enough (like mine) they might just come up with some really good ideas. Have them share with you why a pet would change their lives. Having that how to convince your parents to get a pet OR how to convince your parents to get a dog conversation is worth it!

We’ve been having these conversations for years on whether or not we should get a dog, so this conversation is nothing new. Check out our YouTube video from years ago!
