6 Hippie Hairstyles: Boho Hairstyles

Whether you’re heading to music festivals, school, the beach, or to a party, a hippie look can work. I love a good hippie vibe when it comes to my hair, whether you have curly hair, straight hair, wavy hair, short hair, medium length hair, or long hair, you can make it work. I’m excited to share with you some of the best hippie hairstyles that I’ve come up with for my hair and your hair, too.

I know that when you think of a red carpet hairstyle you’re not thinking about messy hairstyles or relaxed looks, but when you think of boho hairstyles, that’s exactly what you think about. What I love is that messy hairstyles have become boho, gorgeous looks for women that look beautiful. I’m all about hippie hairstyles for women because they’re effortless-looking and work for any kind of style that you’re going for.

I’m excited to share with you some of my favorite hippie hairstyles. I’m including hair tutorials for each one that I hope will be easy for you to use and be able to understand. I try to go through them slowly, but if there’s one you have any questions on, please let me know!

PS – Drop in the comments which hairstyle is your favorite! These are some of the best hairstyles for women.

Boho Hairstyles for Women

Side Braid Hairstyle: The first hairstyle I’m going to show you is a cute braided bun. This hairstyle is perfect for long hair because it keeps your hair out of your face and looks really cute. It’s a mix between a side braid and a messy bun, which I just personally love. To do this hairstyle, start by taking a section of hair on top and doing a loose braid that is either a three-strand braid or a fishtail braid off to the side. Then, take all the hair and bring it to the side and braid it down, then wrap it. The main thing is making sure you get that wrap bun in place.

Pulled-Back Hairstyle: The next one is such an easy way to accomplish your goal of bohemian hairstyles because it’s effortless and relaxed. This is also a unique look when it comes to your hair, which I love, too. You take a side section of hair and elastic band the hair. Simple go through and do flip braid down it. I can only fit 3 in my hair, just do as many as you can fit. I love the look of this style because it’s so chic. You can leave your hair down with it or braid the end.

Boho Braided Hairstyle: Here’s another cute hairstyle to give you that hippie lifestyle look. I’m all about chic, boho braids that are gorgeous. Start by parting your hair, you can either do it as a middle part or a side part. Don’t worry about the hair on the back of your head. For this hairstyle, I just flat iron it straight to really amp up the braid in front. Braid your hair with a three-strand braid and then puff it out to make it thick. This is called pancaking a braid. I love this one.

Fishtail Braid: A fishtail braid is the ultimate when it comes to cute hippie hairstyles. This works well on (ahem) older women like me, and also on young girls, too. I have a bunch of different hair tutorials on how to do a fishtail braid. I promise it’s a super easy hairstyle to do. Start by pulling your hair together and then weaving one side over the other. As you go through, the rest of the hair will beautifully weave into a gorgeous braid. You can add pretty hair accessories to make it even prettier.

How to Do Beachy Waves: Beachy waves are the ultimate hairstyle when it comes to creating festival hairstyles. Creating gorgeous loose waves is the best and really gives you a unique hairstyle, depending on the width of the waves. You can add a flower crown with some bobby pins to really give this one of those different hippie hairstyles that are so beautiful and gorgeous. This is one of my favorite hairstyles of all. I’m also sharing my favorite beachy waves hair tools for you to use, too. These are a great option when you’re looking for that messy look with a boho feel.

Messy Bun: You can’t go wrong with a big bun either on top of your head or the back of the head. A messy updo is the perfect kind of hippie hairstyles for women that people expect because it’s perfectly boho. The good news is that there are so many different ways to accomplish a messy bun and I have a bunch of different ways to share with you. I love taking the top hair and just wrapping it into something adorable! You can make a bun into a fancy look by wearing it with a dress.

Bubble Braid: If you’re into a bubble braid, this is also the ultimate boho style. This is a beautifully detailed style to do when you’re looking for a hippie hairstyle that you can create and rock. I love bubble braids because they work on women of different ages and little girls, too. These are also so simple to create in your hair, too. Add some real flowers, which are always a good choice when looking to create boho hairstyles.

Half Up Bubble Braid

Dutch Braids: I’m a big fan of double dutch braids, too. These are the ultimate hippie hairstyle braids to do on your hair. You can also pancake these braids to make it a thick braid, which is perfect for any hippie outing (think music festival). You can really have some fun with these braids because they are so pretty and fun. This works on medium hair and long hair, and I promise don’t take much time if you know how to braid. It’s just a cool look to do and fabulous to wear to a beach party, too.

Hair Accessories: If you’re looking for some additional hippie hairstyles, you can also add in a hair scarf. I love adding scarves into my braids because it’s such a gorgeous look. It reminds me of a relaxed, boho style and it’s one that I think works for anyone, at any age. It’s always fun to do fancy braids, but one of the best things to do is make it simple. I’m all about a headband style, too for festival hair inspiration. I know most people see these as a perfect summer look, and I agree!

I hope you enjoy these modern hippie style hairstyles. Again, these work for long hairstyles, as well as short hairstyles… it just depends on what you’re looking to do. If these are too much for you, a simple braid that you pancake is always a safe bet. I know these aren’t always easy to bring into your everyday life, but hippie hairstyles today are chic and give such a carelook look that is relaxed.
