Happy Birthday, MOM!

Today my mother turns 58 years old. When I look at her, it’s crazy to think she’s turning 58, she doesn’t look 58 to me, at all!

A year ago today, I was sitting on an Acela train heading to NYC while my mother kicked off her 57th birthday by skydiving. SKYDIVING. Seriously, I sat there on the train sick to my stomach, praying the jump would be perfect for her. That’s how she began last year, truly with a bang! She set out to do 57 things in her 57th year that were new and exciting and out-of-the-box experiences for her. I couldn’t have been more proud or more impressed…

She has embarked on many things throughout this last year… skydiving, horseback riding, opening day at Fenway Park, heading to a Patriots game, pole dancing lessons (la…la…la, as I try to forget that one), entering a baking contest, doing a zip-lining, posing for Estee Lauder Breast Cancer Awareness and so many, many more. The biggest accomplishment (in my mind) was her finishing a 1/2 Ironman this past summer. I stood there in awe as she crossed the finish line. This is a woman who started running for the first time at this time last year.

My mom crossing the finish line, my brother has his arms up to hug her!

So today… on her 58th birthday, as she starts her 58th year… I want to wish her a very, very special birthday. My mom is one of my best friend’s. She’s always there for her family and friends. She takes on a lot of roles, more than most should… and I want her to know that I think she’s incredible. I feel very lucky to have her as my mother, and it’s even more special for me to see her with my own children.

Mom… I hope your 58th year is filled with exciting and happy and beautiful memories and experiences! I hope that you continue to make all of your dreams come true. And most of all, I wish for you to keep on smiling! You’re the light for a lot of people… and it’s amazing to see you SHINE bright on this special of day’s.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I love you!

Your mom is one of those people that you just can’t believe sometimes. She is awesome and inspirational. She is certainly my inspiration. She has a heart the size of Rhode Island and would do anything for anyone. My goal for her 58th year and my 56th is for us to meet in person. Oh what a great day that would be. Please give my friend a big hug from me and tell her that I love her!

Happy Birthday Sharon, why do you insist on telling people you’re 58 when we both know you’re really 28. You’ll never be old because of your young spirit. You’ll be 28 forever!!! Congrats!!
