I’m all about heart hairstyles for Valentine’s Day. I think they’re the cutest and the most perfect hairstyles for the day of love. Since the day is all about love, it’s a perfect time to share hearts, hearts and more hearts.

I started doing Victoria’s hair for Valentine’s Day the second it was long enough to style. As first I could only manage super simple hairstyles (a.k.a. ponytail with a red ribbon), but as she got older and I started seeing some of the cute hairstyles out there – I wanted to give it a go.

It has become so much fun for us creating heart hairstyles in her hair and seeing what we can do and come up with for this particular holiday. So many hairstyles for Valentine’s Day are adorable, so it’s a blast trying to do as many as we can while we wait for February 14th to arrive!

Step-by-step:

1. Start with the hair half-up.

2. Divide this section into 3.

3. Three strand braid down each one of these sections.

4. Take the braids on the sides and pull them through the hair elastic, but don’t go all the way through. Just let them dangle over.

5. Take the 2 braids and then shape them into a heart and hair tie them to the middle braid (that you didn’t pull through).

6. Feel free to add a ribbon or a bow!

As you can see, this cute half-up heart braid hairstyle is easy and just adorable for Valentine’s Day. I love how it looks and it really is a perfect one to do for school or any special occasion.

Hair Products Used for this Heart Braid

Here are the hair products that I used for this particular hairstyle.

Hair Elastics

These are the Teenitor hair elastics I’ve been using lately. I was recommended to use them and couldn’t wait to give them a try. Victoria’s hair is on the thicker side, so I need to make sure I have hair elastics that will hold the hair and be extra durable. I also want to make sure the hair elastics won’t damage or crease the hair.

best hair elastics

  • Strong and stretchy: The elastics are not so thin that they break when you try to stretch, but they are not so thick that you can’t stretch them properly. They have stayed in very fine, soft hair through days of gardening. Also, they slide off the braids when grabbed and pull off clean. No rolling and catching the hair to make knots.
  • Great deal: This is a great deal on 2000 pieces clear rubber elastic hair bands, enough for braiding different hairstyles. You can keep a couple dozen in your purse, another couple dozen in your gym bag, some in your car…you get the idea. Any time you realize you need a hair tie, you’ll have a stash.

The best part is that you get 2000 for under $7!

Hair Styling Cream

It’s the one question I get asked the most lately, and I love it. It’s important to make sure you prep the hair before you create a hairstyle. I love to use hair styling cream because I know it will help to keep the hair smooth and shiny.

I prefer using Dae Hair Styling Cream.
