Are you a morning person? Are you someone who jumps out of bed at the crack of dawn with a smile on their face? Or are you someone who hits the alarm ten times and wants to throw it across the room?
Everyone might have their own personal definition of a morning person. Webster Dictionary defines a morning person as: a person who likes the early part of the day: a person who has the most energy in the morning.
Are you a morning person?
There are lots of benefits to being a morning person. You’re up early, ready to take on the day. You get hours in the morning when you’re “fresh” to accomplish your goals. You are up to see the sunrise. You’re up during quiet hours when you really can take time to hear yourself think.
As you can imagine, there are so many more benefits, but the BIG question is… how can you become a morning person? it is possible to train yourself to become one because I’m living proof. All through my 20s, I was a sleeper. I loved to sleep in and stretch my sleep hours as long as I could in the morning.
When I started my own business, I quickly started to see that by becoming a morning person I was able to get so much work done in the morning. So when asked now, Are you a morning person? I can easily say YES. I’m a morning person who enjoys waking up and getting my day going.
How To Become a Morning Person
I wanted to share some strategies for becoming a morning person. It’s not always easy, but it is possible. The good thing is that once you start doing these tips and strategies it should be easier for you to transition yourself over to a morning person and kicking off your day on a good note.
Stagger Your Alarm
Ripping off the BandAid isn’t always the best way to do it. What do I mean by that? If you’re used to waking up on your own or at a particular time (let’s say 8 am), start by setting your alarm in increments until you get to your desired wake-up time.
If you’re used to getting up at 8 am, setting your alarm for 4:30 am just isn’t realistic. Start by waking up at 7 am, then maybe 6:30 am, then 6 am, and work your way “down” until you get where you need and want to be. This is a strategy that worked for me.
Brew Coffee
There’s nothing like waking up to a fresh pot of coffee. You can set your pot to brew in the morning by auto-setting it. This is an easy way to become a morning person because you’ll get used to your coffee being ready and it will make it that much easier for you to get up and get some caffeine into your body.
Workout in the Morning
Get yourself moving! It’s not always easy to get yourself in the workout groove, but once you get moving you will love it. Get the energy flowing in your body and wake yourself up. Working out in the morning is one of the best things you can do because it sets your day on the right track.
15 Reasons Why You Need to Workout
Whether you’re walking or biking or running or swimming… it’s just a good thing to be active in the morning. I started waking up for early morning workouts last winter and it completely set my mindset for the week. I was ready to tackle whatever was about to come my way and it felt good.
Good Night’s Sleep
This has been the toughest one for me because I also love staying up at night and watching TV… but get a GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP. What do I mean by that? Go to bed early. Make sure you get those hours in. You’ll be more apt to become a morning person if you are getting a good night’s sleep and that starts with going to bed early to clock in those hours.
See How Much You Get Done
One of the best ways for you to answer YES to “Are you a morning person?” is to see how much you get done in the morning by getting up early. This is the best way to show yourself the benefits of waking up early. Whether you’re catching up on work or chores or homework… it really is amazing to see just how much you can get done in those early morning hours. The proof is in the pudding!
Hopefully, these tips will help you start to get yourself up early and move into the morning person category. it’s not always easy to do, but it’s possible to do it. I can’t imagine myself not getting up early every morning. It’s my alone time and my private work time. I’m able to cram so much in throughout my 2 hours in the morning before every gets up.
