Last year I embarked on a project I called 57 in 52… attempting to complete 57 wonderful things in my 57th year in 52 weeks.
I did it!
I sky-dived, ran a half marathon, entered a baking contest, completed a Half Ironman, zip-lined, took pole dancing lessons, wrote a children’s book, winter surfed in New England, pogo-sticked in spike heels, ice skated at Rockefeller Center with my 2 granddaughters and so, so many more.
But one of my most joyous things on my list of 57 in 52 was creating a Tulip Garden. Last September, with the loving help of my wonderful husband Barry, we prepared and got into the soil in two little patches of our tiny front yard. We planted 100 tulip bulbs. 100 miracles. 100 promises. 100 gifts of tomorrows…
And we waited.
We had one of the most snowy New England winters ever, but those blankets of snow made me happy for the warmth they offered our 100 sleeping tulip bulbs. We’ve had a very cool Spring, but each day I’d visit my little patches of Earth for the peeking of something, the miracles of the Earth…
And then, this very morning, Earth Day gave us this great gift…
Our first bloom, welcoming and joyous and celebrating all that this wonderful Earth has to give.
I can’t stop smiling!
(And, oh… I’ve been counting our precious little babes. 97 are standing tall and 3 more little ones are peeking through! 100 gifts. 100 ways to thank our Earth today!)
Of all my 57 in 52, I know that our Tulip Garden is the one we can share with the universe! What a gift!
How wonderful! There is nothing better than seeing that first bloom of the year. I would think seeing the first bloom from tulips planted for a special reason would be that much better!
How totally wonderful! Thank you so much for posting the pic! AND so many of them how awesome!
Oh my gosh how wonderful Sharon. After sunflowers, tulips are my favorite. I can only imagine how it felt to see that first bloom. You are right – what a GIFT!
